WIPO South Africa Advanced Summer School on Intellectual P & Transfer of Technology

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy, the Department of Science and Innovation (through the National Intellectual Property Management Office), the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (Department of Trade, Industry and Competition) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal will be hosting an online summer school on intellectual property and transfer of technology.

The programme provides an opportunity to senior students and young professionals to acquire a deeper knowledge of each domain of intellectual property (IP) and of the role and functions of WIPO.

Curriculum

The programme consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines.

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the programme requirements.

Eligibility

The summer school is open to senior students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and young professionals from any discipline or field of study. The programme is designed for candidates who are already familiar with IP.

All applicants are required to have successfully completed the WIPO Distance Learning Course on Intellectual Property Management (DL 450) before being selected for the Summer School programme. Applicants who have not done so before registration will have an opportunity to do the course after

3 September, and those who pass will be eligible to attend the summer school.

Format

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, the summer school will be held online.

Online registration

Applications should be submitted at https://welc.wipo.int/acrp/program/wss?cid=WSSZA2_21&lang=en&locale=en. The following documents should be uploaded:

•A recent curriculum vitae. *

•A letter setting out the applicant's reasons for applying and what they hope to gain from the summer school (maximum of 300 words). *

•A copy of their identity document or passport. *

•A DL 450 certificate.

Documents marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.

Successful applicants will be notified two weeks after the registration deadline.

Cost

Due to the exceptional circumstances this year, all fees have been waived. For one time only, participation will be free of charge.

Summer school: 23 November to 3 December 2021
